Taking your time to train your dog properly with an invisible dog fence will pay great dividends in short and long term, as it will dramatically improve its effectiveness. PetSafe advise that you put aside about a quarter of an hour a day for the dog training. Should you find that after the 14 day period, you feel your dog isn't happy with the invisible dog fence, keep going a bit longer or start the training again from the beginning.

If at any time your dog is demonstrating signs of stress, which can include timid behaviors, ears back and not wanting to walk outdoors, then put on hold the training session with the invisible dog fence. The way to de-stress your dog is to play some games like fetching a stick or a ball, stroking him and talking in a reassuring voice and having lots of fun. As soon as he becomes his old self again, then you can pick up the training where you left off.

You will use boundary flags as part of the training. Once you set up the invisible dog fence, you then stake out the boundary with flags, these are a visual cue for you and your dog. At the end of each training session, you want to end up near the boundary and you want your dog to be happy and comfortable being here. You want to be able to play with him and make sure he is happy being in that spot.

Before crossing the border of the invisible dog fence, make sure you take the collar off, else your dog will get a shock. Should the dog training be going faster than the 14 day plan, you still need to continue with it for the full 14 days. The reason why you want to stick with it is because repetition underpins the training and is extremely important. Finally, do not use any other containment method during this training phase as it could confuse your dog.
